The Butterfly Road
Julie Gootee found her spark of inspiration on the road. A decade ago her passion for traveling and vending linked with her connection to nature to conceive The Butterfly Road. She walks the roadsides of Bloomington to collect butterflies, dragonflies, moths and cicadas that have come to the end of their lifecycle. Utilizing stained glass techniques and copper electro-forming, she encases the wings in glass to preserve their beauty in one of a kind jewelry. She views her art as a way to bring awareness to the simple beauty we pass everyday and our impact on the environment.
