What is the Bloomington Handmade Market Micro Market?
The Micro Market takes place one time per year in conjunction with the Bloomington Handmade Market Holiday Show at the Convention Center, the second Saturday in November. The Micro Market focuses on professional development for emerging artists and makers in Bloomington and the surrounding areas. The BHM board accepts applications to be part of the Micro Market during the later summer/early fall. Accepted applicants will be mentored by the BHM Board about best practices in selling your art/craft. The mentorship will involve a series of informational emails in conjunction with one round-table with the group at large, and a single one-on-one session with each mentor/mentee.
At the end of their mentorship, applicants will be asked to join the BHM Holiday Show (free of charge) to display their works for sale to the public. BHM will market the Micro Market alongside the Holiday Show via social media as well as any print and/or radio advertising.
At the show, Micro Market artists will share a combined large booth in the Duke Room, alongside other BHM Holiday makers and artists. MM artists will collect their own payments (after being trained to do so). Applicants are expected to provide their own display (including tables), set up/tear down and to staff their own booth for the duration of the market. The Market runs from 10a-4p and set up will begin at 8:00am.
This is a great opportunity for student and emerging artists to get hands on experience in the world of craft fairs, and receive invaluable advice and direction from experienced business people and crafters/artists/makers.
Applications for the Holiday Micro Market are open from June 1 - Sept 1. Notifications of acceptance will be sent out by Sept 16. The MANDATORY round table will be October 16th at 6pm.
