We are stoked to welcome Katie Killion Photography to our sponsor family here at BHM!! This year Katie will be the one behind the lens snapping photos of not only our AMAZING makers and their spaces, but also YOU!! Make sure you smile, and say hello, and check out her page for all your photography needs! At this point in time, we can pretty reliably say that Gather would not exist if it were not for the Bloomington Handmade Market, nor would the Bloomington Handmade Market exist if it weren't for Gather. We're symbiotic mechanisms that feed off each other and create a vortex of amazing indie handmade work in the center of downtown Bloomington. If you've not been into Gather yet, go - no RUN and check out the nearly 200 individual artists who are making a living selling their work through venues like Gather (and Bloomington Handmade Market). At Gather you can find new items for sale nearly every day, sent in by artists who are often alums of the Handmade Market or current vendors, or vendors to be. They host a Gallery Walk opening reception EVERY First Friday, they host a multitude of classes and workshops throughout the year as well as hosting other events and supporting the downtown businesses as part of downtown Bloomington. Coming up - be sure to visit Gather and MANY other downtown merchants for the Downtown Halloween Trick or Treat Trail on October 30th from 5-8pm. You can park for free, after 6pm in the 4th Street Parking Garage and step inside Fountain Square Mall to start your tour and treating. A listing of participating merchants and attractions will be available on posters and fliers at each location - and of course, Gather is one. Happy Halloween!! We just can't stop!! We're so excited to share with you what our Lovely sponsors are up to lately!!! This month you can find a wide variety of films being show through the Ryder film series - but honestly, we can't wait to see this one: Finders Keepers. It runs from October 30 through November 15 and it's sure to be . . . interesting:) "Truth can indeed be stranger than fiction. Shannon Whisnant has a nose for a bargain. So when he buys a used grill at a North Carolina yard sale and finds a severed human foot among its contents, he spies a golden opportunity to cash in on the gruesome discovery. Then the original owner shows up and demands his missing foot back. This is the stuff of documentary legend." So, if you're looking for something to do this week/weekend, be sure to check out the schedule for the Ryder Film series, and as always, pick up a magazine to read about the films and all kinds of things going on in the area. Thanks to the Ryder for their continued support of BHM! This year BHM is so excited to have media sponsorship provided by WFHB!! WFHB is Live, Local, Community Radio- right outside our back door actually (well, behind Gather that is). It's always SO exciting to partner with local like-minded businesses to get the word out about the Market. WFHB is Indiana's FIRST community radio station and has been volunteer-powered and listener-supported since 1993. You can find such greats as the Firehouse Follies, The Daily Local News as well as podcasts like BloomingOUT and Activate. It all points back to the mission of WFHB : "WFHB exists to provide an open community forum for the exchange and discussion of ideas and issues, and to celebrate and increase the local cultural diversity." And we're certainly more than happy to be a part of it. Tune in today, and be a part of your local community radio. Each year we have the joy to work with local establishments like Cardinal Stage to help us put our show on! We're so excited to bring Cardinal into the fold and share with YOU what is so great about them!
Coming up this weekend you can catch Peabody, a play by Glen Berger at the Ivy Tech John Waldron Arts Center (running from OCt 17-Oct 25). Sure to be a great launch for the Cardinal for Kids show season! Then, coming up later in the year!!!! We have such marvelous support in our community and it just comes from all kinds - from doctors to bakers, from city workers to photographers - all the way to realtors. We know Theresa has helped out quite a few small businesses in her time as a realtor, and we're excited to have her on our side! For all your real estate needs, be sure to pay a visit (or send an email) to Theresa Sicinski with Re/Max Real Estate!! BEAD is Bloomington's premiere arts and entertainment destination located in the heart of downtown. And each year, we are delighted to be part of BEAD. The most amazing things happen in BEAD - and we're here to share a few of them happening this month!
What's even MORE fun about BEAD is that each month you can attend a BEAD meeting and find out about all of these rad things!! We Love supporting our small businesses and shopping, eating, browsing locally. Thank you BEAD for your continued support of BHM! Each year we are lucky enough to work with a group of local like-minded business who support our Market - and it seems, each year they've been around we've been even more lucky to have the minds, faces, bodies and more behind Rainbow Bakery supporting us. Rainbow is an amazing space where you can meet up with friends, drink good coffee, eat spectacular donuts and have a real conversation. Screen time optional. It's welcoming. It's punk rock. It's an art gallery. It's local. It's vegan. And sometimes, it's also gluten-free. We Love you Rainbow!!
